Casa de la Bondad
Casa de la Bondad, Inc is a NGO founded in 1993 by a group of citizens who were concerned about the absence of services in the east region of the island for victims and/or survivors of domestic violence as well as their children. Why was there a decrease?
A decrease in the numbers of Domestic Violence cases, does not translate into a decrease in the number of Domestic Violence crimes/incidents committed in Puerto Rico during or post hurricanes Irma and Maria. It has been observed that victims encountered tremendous obstacles to find safety in Domestic Violence shelters during the and after the hurricanes in Puerto Rico given in large part the lack of government planning and lack of government response post hurricanes. Some reasons for a decline in the number of cases arriving Post Hurricane Maria to Domestic Violence shelters:

Casa de la Bondad's Needs
Casa de la Bondad continues offering out-patient services to a multitude of both victim and survivor cases that are in need of immediate assistance and resources. The shelter being closed is problematic being that they cannot ensure the appropriate sensitivity for these cases that would be better served in-house through their Residential Program where they can ensure the proper security and resources needed for the various women and children in need of their help.
